Alumnetic

Terms of Service

Last updated 21 September 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Alumnetic ("Alumnetic," "we," "us," or "our"), a service operated by its founder, Mike Samaniego, pending incorporation, and govern your use of the Alumnetic mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Services"). The Alumnetic Privacy Policy and the Alumnetic Community Standards are part of these Terms. By creating an account or using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.

1. Who May Use Alumnetic

  • You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) to create an account.
  • Access to a team's network requires a valid team access code and a verified email address. By using a code you represent that you are genuinely connected to that team or school community — as an alumnus or alumna, current or former athlete, family member, coach, staff member, or supporter — and that you are the person the code was intended for.
  • You may create one account, for yourself, with accurate information. You may not use another person's account or let anyone else use yours.
  • Team access codes are for people connected to the team. Do not post them publicly, sell them, or share them with people outside that community.
  • Some members are granted team-administrator tools by their team. Team administrators are members, not Alumnetic employees, and act for their team.

2. Alumnetic Is Independent of the U.S. Navy, the Naval Academy, and the Department of Defense

Alumnetic is a privately operated platform. It is not owned, operated, sponsored, or endorsed by the United States Navy, the United States Naval Academy, the Naval Academy Athletic Association, the Department of Defense, or any other government body or school. Team names, logos, and other marks belong to their respective owners and are used to identify the communities the Services serve.

Nothing on the Services is an official communication of any military service, school, or government agency. Members who are on active duty, in the reserves, or employed by the federal government remain solely responsible for complying with the rules that apply to them (for example, rules about political activity, operational security, endorsements, and ethics). Alumnetic makes no representation that any particular use of the Services complies with those rules.

3. Your Account

  • Keep your password confidential and tell us at support@alumnetic.com right away if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.
  • You are responsible for activity that happens under your account.
  • A team administrator may remove you from that team's network. Alumnetic may suspend or terminate your account under Section 17.
  • You can delete your account at any time in the app (Menu → Settings & Privacy → Delete account). Deletion is permanent. Section 4 explains what happens to content you posted.

4. Your Content

"Your Content" means anything you post, upload, or send through the Services — posts, comments, photos, profile information, event listings, job postings, messages, and reports. You own Your Content.

So that we can operate the Services, you grant Alumnetic a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, distribute, and adapt (for example, resize or transcode) Your Content for the purpose of providing, securing, and improving the Services, and to show it to the members and communities you shared it with. This license ends when Your Content is deleted from the Services, except (a) where Your Content has been reshared or quoted by other members, (b) for copies kept for a limited time in routine backups, and (c) where we are required to keep it by law or to resolve a dispute.

You are responsible for Your Content and represent that:

  • you have the rights needed to post it, including for photos that show other people;
  • it does not violate the Community Standards, the law, or anyone else's rights;
  • it is not confidential information you are not entitled to share. What you share about your own service and career is your decision; other people's private information is not yours to post.

Other members can see Your Content according to where you post it: profile information is visible to verified members of your network; posts are visible to your team's network or to the community you posted in; direct messages are visible to their participants. Members may mention you in posts and comments and may reshare your posts within the Services.

We may remove or restrict Your Content at any time if we believe it violates these Terms or the Community Standards, creates risk for Alumnetic or its members, or for any other reason in our reasonable judgment. Where practical we will tell you why.

When you delete Your Content, or delete your account, it is removed from the Services. Photos and other files may take up to 30 days to be purged from storage, and copies may persist where Section 4 allows.

5. Community Standards, Reporting, and Enforcement

The Alumnetic Community Standards describe what is and is not allowed. Alumnetic has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior. Every member can report a post, comment, photo, profile, or message, and can block another member; a blocked member can no longer see your posts, comment on them, or message you.

We may remove content, restrict features, suspend, or permanently terminate accounts that violate these Terms or the Standards, at any time, with or without notice. We aim to review reports within 24 hours and to remove content and eject offending members where warranted. You can appeal an enforcement action as described in the Standards.

6. Direct Messages

  • Direct messages are for the people in the conversation. The Community Standards apply in messages exactly as they do in public posts.
  • Messages are encrypted in transit and stored in encrypted form. We do not describe messaging as end-to-end encrypted.
  • If you report a message, the content of that message and the surrounding context are shared with our moderators so the report can be reviewed.
  • Messages are not a substitute for emergency services. If someone is in danger, contact local emergency services.

7. Directory, Map, and Profiles

  • Your profile is visible to verified members of your network. You decide what to add to it. Some fields — phone number, employer, duty station, current city — are optional and are shown to other members of your network when you add them. Leave out anything you do not want members to see.
  • The alumni map places you by the city and state you enter in your profile. The Services do not collect your device's GPS location.
  • You may use directory, map, and profile information only for personal networking within your community. You may not scrape, export, bulk-collect, or use it for advertising, unsolicited recruiting, sales, background checks, or any purpose the member did not share it for.

8. Mentorship and Careers

Mentorship suggestions and career postings are introductions between members. Alumnetic does not vet mentors, employers, or job postings, is not an employment agency or career counselor, and does not guarantee any outcome. Use your own judgment, especially before sharing personal or financial information, and follow your own employer's or service's rules on outside activities.

9. Events and Calendars

  • Events are created by members or generated from published team schedules. Alumnetic is not the organizer of any event and is not responsible for it. Confirm details with the organizer; schedules change.
  • With your permission, the app can add events to your device calendar. Calendar subscription links generated for you are private to you: anyone who has the link can read that schedule, so do not share it.
  • Calendar feeds depend on Apple, Google, and the source schedule; updates may be delayed.

10. Donations and Team Support Links

Links to give to a team, join a newsletter, or express recruiting interest take you to third-party sites chosen by that team (for example, the team's designated fund at its school's foundation). Alumnetic does not process donations, does not receive them, and gives no tax advice. Those sites' terms and privacy policies apply.

11. Third-Party Services and Sign-In

The Services work with third-party services, including Sign in with Apple, LinkedIn sign-in, Apple Calendar and Google Calendar, and OpenStreetMap (used to place cities on the map). Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. Alumnetic is not responsible for them, and they may change or stop working.

12. AI-Assisted Features

Some features use automated systems, including third-party AI providers: search suggestions, mentorship matching, post tagging, content moderation, and aggregate insights shown to team administrators. These systems can be wrong. These features are part of how Alumnetic works and are not separately optional; automated moderation runs on all content for safety. Moderation decisions that affect you can be appealed under the Community Standards.

13. Notifications and Communications

By creating an account you agree to receive service messages from us (for example, security notices, verification codes, and changes to these Terms). Push notifications are optional and can be controlled in the app and in your device settings. We do not send marketing text messages.

14. Alumnetic's Intellectual Property and Your License to Use the App

The Services, including the app, website, design, text, graphics, and software, are owned by Alumnetic or its licensors and protected by intellectual-property laws. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for personal, non-commercial use. You may not:

  • copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Services, or reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code, except where the law allows it despite this restriction;
  • access the Services by automated means (bots, scrapers, crawlers) or bypass access codes, rate limits, or other security measures;
  • use the Services to build a competing product or to collect information about members;
  • interfere with the Services or any other member's use of them.

15. Copyright Complaints

If you believe content on the Services infringes your copyright, send a notice under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to support@alumnetic.com, including: identification of the work; identification of the material and where it appears; your contact information; a statement of good-faith belief; a statement under penalty of perjury that the notice is accurate and you are authorized to act; and your physical or electronic signature. We may remove content in response and terminate repeat infringers. Counter-notices may be sent to the same address.

16. Feedback

If you send us ideas, bug reports, or suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you.

17. Suspension and Termination

You may stop using the Services and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access, in whole or in part, if you violate these Terms or the Community Standards, if your team removes you from its network and you hold no other membership, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Services. Sections 4 (as to the license tail), 12, and 18 through 24 survive termination.

18. Disclaimers

THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ALUMNETIC DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. ALUMNETIC DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT INFORMATION POSTED BY MEMBERS IS ACCURATE. ALUMNETIC IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONDUCT OF ANY MEMBER, ONLINE OR OFFLINE. USE CAUTION WHEN MEETING SOMEONE IN PERSON.

19. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ALUMNETIC AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, GOODWILL, OR OPPORTUNITY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS. ALUMNETIC'S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICES WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100). SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THESE LIMITS, SO THEY MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

20. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Alumnetic and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of Your Content, your use of the Services, or your violation of these Terms or of any law or third-party right.

21. Dispute Resolution and Governing Law

Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us at support@alumnetic.com and try to resolve the dispute informally for 30 days. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that is not resolved informally will be brought only in the state or federal courts located in California, and you and Alumnetic consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. Nothing in this section limits the protections available to service members under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.

22. Terms Required by Apple

If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store, the following also apply:

  • These Terms are between you and Alumnetic, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
  • Your license to the app is limited to use on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the App Store Terms of Service, except that the app may be accessed by other accounts associated with you via Family Sharing.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
  • The app is free to download. If the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses attributable to a failure to conform to a warranty are Alumnetic's responsibility.
  • Alumnetic, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the app or your possession or use of it, including product-liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer-protection or similar laws.
  • In the event of a third-party claim that the app or your possession and use of it infringes that third party's intellectual-property rights, Alumnetic, not Apple, is responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of the claim.
  • You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • You must comply with applicable third-party terms of agreement when using the app (for example, your wireless data service agreement).
  • Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance, may enforce them against you.

23. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will notify you through the app or by email before it takes effect and update the "Last updated" date. Continuing to use the Services after the change takes effect means you accept the new Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the Services and delete your account.

24. General

  • These Terms, with the Privacy Policy and Community Standards, are the entire agreement between you and Alumnetic about the Services.
  • If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
  • You may not assign these Terms. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
  • Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
  • We may send notices to the email address on your account or through the app.
  • You must comply with U.S. export laws in your use of the Services.
