Community Standards
Last updated 15 September 2026
Alumnetic exists to help alumni, family, friends, and supporters of a team stay connected, mentor one another, and support their community. These Community Standards ("Standards") explain what is and is not allowed on Alumnetic. They apply to every part of the Services, including posts, comments, communities, direct messages, profiles, and event listings.
In these Standards, "moderators" means Alumnetic staff and the administrators your team has designated. Moderators may remove content, restrict features, or remove members under the Enforcement section.
1. Who can join
Access to a team's network requires a valid team access code and a verified email address. This helps ensure that members are actually connected to the team or school community they are joining. You must be at least 18 years old and may hold one account, for yourself.
2. Be respectful
- Treat other members the way you would want to be treated — this is a professional and personal network built on trust.
- Disagreements are fine; personal attacks are not.
- Respect people's privacy, including information shared in communities or direct messages.
3. Prohibited content and conduct
The following are not allowed anywhere on Alumnetic:
- Harassment, bullying, threats, or targeted abuse of any member.
- Hate speech or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or veteran or military status.
- Sexually explicit content, or content that sexualizes any member.
- Graphic violence or content that promotes self-harm.
- Hazing, or content that celebrates or encourages it.
- Impersonating another person, team, or organization.
- Partisan political campaigning or fundraising, and any content presented as an official position or communication of the U.S. Navy, the Naval Academy, or a team.
- Spam, scams, phishing, or deceptive commercial solicitation.
- Sharing another member's private information without their consent ("doxxing").
- Content that is illegal, or that infringes someone else's intellectual property.
- Coordinated inauthentic behavior, such as fake accounts or engagement manipulation.
What you share about your own service and career in your own profile and posts is your decision.
4. Communities
- Communities are organized around industries and affinities (for example, Aviation, Technology, Transition and Job Search) to help members with similar interests connect.
- Non-members may view a community's posts and member count; joining is required to post or receive notifications.
- Community discussions should stay relevant to the community's purpose. Off-topic promotion or repeated derailment may be removed.
- Moderators may remove posts or members that violate these Standards.
5. Direct messages
Direct messages are intended for one-on-one and small-group conversations. The same standards of conduct apply in messages as in public posts. Sending harassing, threatening, or unsolicited sexual messages will result in enforcement action, including account suspension. When you report a message, its content is shared with moderators so the report can be reviewed.
6. Blocking
You can block any member from their profile, from one of their posts or comments, or from a conversation. When you block someone, they can no longer see your posts, comment on them, message you, or find you in the directory, and you will not see their content. They are not notified. You can review and undo blocks under Settings & Privacy → Blocked accounts. Blocking is separate from reporting: block to stop contact, report to have us review a violation. You can do both.
7. Events
Event organizers are responsible for the accuracy of event details they post. Events must comply with these Standards and may not be used to promote illegal activity or content otherwise prohibited on the platform.
8. Content moderation
We use a combination of automated tools and human review to help identify content that may violate these Standards. Automated review is a tool to assist, not replace, human judgment, and decisions can be appealed.
9. Reporting a concern
If you see content or behavior that violates these Standards, use Report on the post, comment, photo, profile, or message. Reports go to a confidential review queue; the person you report is not told who reported them. We aim to review every report within 24 hours. You can also contact us directly at support@alumnetic.com.
10. Enforcement
Violations of these Standards may result in one or more of the following, depending on severity and history:
- A warning and request to remove or edit content.
- Removal of the content in question.
- Temporary restriction of posting, messaging, or community features.
- Removal from a team's network by that team's administrators. Your account remains, but you lose access to that network unless you hold a membership elsewhere.
- Temporary or permanent suspension of your account.
Severe violations, including threats of violence, illegal content, or child safety concerns, will result in immediate account suspension and may be reported to law enforcement.
11. Appeals
If you believe an enforcement action was made in error, you can request a review by contacting support@alumnetic.com with your account information and a brief explanation. We will review appeals in good faith, though not every decision can be reversed.
12. Changes to these Standards
We may update these Standards as the community grows and as new features are introduced. We will note the "Last updated" date above when changes are made.
